

Reverend Doctor Maxine L. Thomas

Rev. Dr. Maxine Thomas is an ordained Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is currently the Assistant Pastor at Quinn Chapel AME Church AME Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where her husband of 26 years, the Rev. Troy I. Thomas is the Pastor. She is the mother of three lovely daughters, Tricia, Traci, and Trina. Dr. Maxine is the Executive Director and Founder of Sisters Keeping the Covenant, Inc. an Interdenominational and International Ministry of healing and restoration for women and girls ages 12 -18. Touching the lives of thousands of women, Dr. Maxine coordinates dynamic conferences that empower women for everyday living as well as prepare them to walk in their destiny. She is the most recent past President of Women in Ministry for the 13th Episcopal District of the AME Church, and until her recent move to Quinn Chapel served as both Chair and Dean of the Board of Examiners for the Kentucky Conference, teaching and training ministers. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Examiners for the West Kentucky Conference. Rev. Dr. Maxine is a member of the Kentucky Department of Health Initiatives for HIV/AIDS Awareness and prevention for African American Women and has organized and planned numerous events and educational programs for HIV prevention. Rev. Dr. Maxine is a member of the Louisville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She is the former Editor of the First District Flame Newspaper, a publication of the 1st Episcopal District of the AME Church, and served for 13 years as the Connectional Director of Ministries for Women under the Department of Church Growth and Development for the AME Church. Rev. Dr. Maxine is the Founder and President of Hope Ministries which comprises her media ministry as a Christian columnist, broadcast columnist, and Christian television talk show host. She is a former columnist for the Christian Recorder Newspaper of the AMEC. She has also authored a column, A Word of Hope, and A Word of Hope Broadcast Ministries, airing on both radio and television. She founded and was host of Adonai Christian Talk Show (ACTS) a television talk show that was aired on Long Island, NY. Rev. Dr. Thomas is a published author with three Christian devotional books for women: “Exhale - A Tea Time Devotional for Healing the Heart of a Woman;” “Exhale Pearls;” and “Exhale and Be Free.”
Dr. Maxine received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System where she graduated as Valedictorian in both Junior and Senior High School. She furthered her education at Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication. She went on to Princeton Theological Seminary, receiving her Master’s of Divinity Degree. Rev. Dr. Maxine is a recent graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY receiving the Doctor of Ministry degree.
Dr. Maxine is an adjunct Professor at both Midway College in Midway, KY and at Bluegrass Technical and Community College. She teaches courses in World Religions, Social Ethics, and Philosophy since August 2010. Dr. Thomas was formerly employed by Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York in the Department of Speech and Rhetorical Studies. As a Professor, she taught Oral Communication. Rev. Dr. Thomas began her career in Journalism with the Baltimore Afro-American Newspaper. While employed by the Baltimore Afro, she began writing A Word of Hope column, which has since appeared in newspapers in various other states. Many have been inspired through this ministry. She was also formerly the Assistant Editor of the Community Journal Newspaper in Roosevelt, NY.
She coordinates Women’s Conferences-- informing, enlightening and empowering women for daily living and for service in God’s Kingdom. She also serves as a consultant to others who desire to establish Women’s Ministries, and assists others in coordinating conferences for women. Dr. Maxine coordinates Cultural Arts Celebration programs, bringing together persons of diverse cultural backgrounds for an evening of celebrating Jesus with the various forms of art—dance, song, drama, and instrumentation. She also coordinates Women Clergy Cross Cultural Training and Empowerment Seminars, and a variety of other training and healing experiences for women. Rev. Dr. Maxine loves the Lord and loves to give Him praise.
